Re: I really need help/advice please

But until the "fog of alcoholism" lifts, we can not think clearly enough to establish/reestablish a spiritual connection with our higher power and that can't happen until we stop using all mood altering substances. Where is this written in any AA literature? We should know this from experience. Oth...

Re: Mental Health and AA

Medications taken as prescribed doesn't change one's sobriety date because it doesn't change one's sobriety. Abuse on the other hand does. I have only been offered narcotic pain killers in sobriety a few times and turned them down because I didn't need them mostly due to non narcotic alternatives. I...

Re: I really need help/advice please

In AA we are NOT treating the affect alcohol has on us...we are treating the spiritual malady...the cause and conditions. For all of you "detractors"who want to be honest and of maximum service to God, we address "causes and conditions" starting in step 4 and that is found on pg. 64. (A few have me...

Re: I really need help/advice please

The former I don't agree with because plenty of AA members slip-slide along for a while. So where is their Grace? I am sharing my experience. When I came in without fully understanding the fatal nature of this I was dilly dallying and was suffering. Then my HP lead me to a proper understanding and ...

Re: I really need help/advice please

there is a grace we get when we enter the fellowship and that carries through a bit. for a permanent sobriety we have to take care of the causes and condition. The former I don't agree with because plenty of AA members slip-slide along for a while. So where is their Grace? The latter I agree with, ...

Re: Cross Addicted

I believe that once we have addressed our alcoholism what is left is working the steps and dealing with life on life's terms. AA has a "singleness of purpose" for a reason which goes largely ignored. But as someone else has reminded us recently in this forum in addition to myself, an alcoholic can b...

the underlying emotional problems are not The whole point of working the inventory is that to identify the areas where we go coo-coo and get some help. Spiritual Malady stems out of emotions (un-checked). Hence the book talks about "when the spiritual malady is overcome we straighten out mentally a...

but first we must admit we are alcoholics and that drinking is our problem. Yes, drinking is a problem, to start with. But we got to quickly realize that our mind is the problem. Selfishness and self-centeredness it the main cause. The Big Book was written and the first 164 pages remain almost virt...

You have a received quite a few thoughts in response. Have they been beneficial and helped to shed any light on things for you?
I think there is a lot of hostility and very little of the AA program principles being practiced.

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

AA has never had and has no copyright on the word "Alano" and couldn't get one even it tried as the word existed prior to the formation of AA and is public domain. You proffer a lot of wonderful theories. For example the Alano name theory. You don't argue that it isn't a self-evident form of Alcoho...

Re: Mental state that precedes a relapse!

The book, before getting into the stories in the chapter "More about alcoholism" talks about "the mental states that precedes a relapse into drinking" for it says "obviously that is the crux of the problem: How then shall we help our readers determine, to their own satisfaction, whether they are on...

Re: Other drugs at meetings...

I might suggest that you reread the Fifth Chapter because what you describe is "our" grudge list: "On our grudge list we set opposite each name our injuries. Was it our self-esteem, our security, our ambitions, our personal, or sex relations, which had been interfered with?" This assumes that I hav...

Re: Alano Clubs - Breaking Tradition?

Hi SoberInMI Thanks for the topic. To answer your original question about whether or not AA allowing clubs to use the term "Alano" is breaking a Tradition, the answer is no, it is not. The first clubhouse for the first drunks in recovery was founded by AA members in New York in 1940, about a year a...
