Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

It's been well over a month since I replied to this post and over six weeks since I attended a meeting. Here I my thoughts. I remain strong and sober. I have no desire to drink alcohol ever again. Why? Because I know what it will do to my life if I do. Did a "Higher Power" play any part of this? NO....

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

After a long talk with my sponsor (and long time friend) and another friend who is going through the program, I made the decision yesterday that AA just isn't for me. I see the great results that the program brings for others and the way that it has turned their lives around and the more power to th...

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

what keeps me recovered when I don't go to meetings for a while? cant be any simpler than this: It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a ...

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

You need a car or transportation and get to real meetings because these gathering seem to be more of a gossip session than quality AA. It isn't fair and thus is life and this is why you can change for the better instead of hanging in the funk. Oh, I am not in a funk at all! I'm just in need of a br...

Re: Massive Failures - We're Not A Glum Lot...

I woke up at 3 AM this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so I just got dressed and turned on the TV. At around 4 I started to feel hungry so I went to get a bowl of cereal and when I opened the fridge there was no milk. I put on my coat and started to head out the door to drive to the nearest c...

Re: Walked out of two meetings this week

So yesterday they started in again- this time on healthcare- and I immediately interrupted the "debate" and said that if anyone was interested in discussing alcoholism and not politics, I would be upstairs (the meetings are held in the basement of an old church converted to an Alano Club) and I head...

Walked out of two meetings this week

On Tuesday I went to my regular 9AM group- not three minutes into the topic, one of the men went off topic and started in on politics. Almost immediately it turned into a shouting match. I requested that we stick to the topic and keep politics out of the meeting to no avail and ended up just walking...

Re: Dealing with the Effects of Alcoholism

Meditation brother. Start meditating and you'll have endless energy even when you don't get much sleep :D Mwah xxx Meditation is something I practice every night for about a half hour before I hit the sack. The computer gets stashed away, the TV gets turned off, I light a couple candles, have a cup...

Dealing with the Effects of Alcoholism

I've had sleep disorders caused by an improperly diagnosed condition that went undetected for almost twelve years. I finally realized that something had to be done about this condition shortly after I stopped drinking and was sent to a sleep specialist by my doctor. The first question the sleep spec...

Re: Niece's Father-in-Law

you need to get to alanon meetings, find a sponsor and share this problem with the group. Good advice. I agree. My first sponsor advised this when I was new to AA and I did. It was very helpful advice. The Alanon meetings helped me to understand why I needed to release people, places, and things th...

Re: Difficulty with spouse drinking

My spouse drinks. We do not keep alcohol in the house- and this was his decision, not mine. However when we go to family gatherings or out to eat he will have glass (or four =biggrin ) of wine. I am not going to deprive him of something he enjoys just because I have a problem. He has gotten drunk on...

Niece's Father-in-Law

I have a very tight family- we get together often for dinners, card and board games, picnics and such on a weekly basis. My family are drinkers and there is alcohol present at every get-together and this does not bother me one bit- except for one person. My niece's father-in-law has been in and out ...

Re: Can a geriatric teetotaler be a latent alcoholic?

To answer the dementia question ... my friend has been a rageaholic for at least 40 years. His anxiety level has gone up now that he is trying to let go of rage as a coping mechanism. BTW, I have great hopes for him with ACOA, and since the description of an ACOA pretty much matches the description...

Re: Nothing but Nudge from the Judgers

MICH - can we really 'qualify ' another as an alcoholic especially since alcoholism is a progressive disease? Is it not a good thing that those kids learned about alcoholism at their age? Both these individuals now say "I am so-and-so and I am an alcoholic" before they speak. When they first came t...

Re: 6 Months Sobriety

Congratulations! Next week will be nine months for me and I cannot tell you how much better I feel. This forum is a very valuable resource- keep up with it! I am now on it every day. Going to meetings is important and a vital part of recovery, but I find reading this forum gives me a much more diver...
