Re: One Day At A Time Slogan

I think we have to plan things out for the future. But where I lose my serenity is when I worry constantly about the unknowns of the future. Or I make those plans and when they don't pan out I get wound up in self pity or anger rather than rolling with it and regrouping. Fighting Gods will rather t...

Re: One Day At A Time Slogan

This quote kind of says it all...thank you Dennis. Here is a new guy saying "One day at a time seems like it might only work for so long"...he's right...it only worked so long for me. I tried this again and again when I was still drinking and it never lasted very long. This one day at a time slogan...

Re: One Day At A Time Slogan

For someone like me who is new, this is definitely a good slogan to start off. However, It does seem that I will need to focus a bit more than one day at a time for general life issues. Having 2 kids, a wife, a job etc... One day at a time seems like it might only work for so long.

Re: questions about the steps

Thanks Noels and Lali! I guess at this point it doesn't really matter whether they were talking about money or not. All I know is that I am an alcoholic and that I need AA to help in recovery. I had a rough week last week as I was on call for work. I wasn't able to get out as much as I would have li...

Re: Sponsorship Question

I've been told that this is part of me already embracing the service part of the Legacies. I certainly think it is, while I respect the opinion of those who don't too much care for the 'other' book the 12 & 12, I believe it does answer some of these types of questions, questions which became appare...

Re: How I knew I found the right councilor / therapist

She probably is one of us. My shrink was, I found that 5 years after I moved to another city. He visited the group I started acquainted with after the move. The thought has certainly crossed my mind. I haven't seen her anywhere at any meetings but that surely doesn't mean much. Either way she's gre...

How I knew I found the right councilor / therapist

Along with AA I've also being seeing a councilor / therapist to help me as well. I wasn't very observant at first but then today I noticed that she had the serenity prayer (in both French and English) on her wall. I was quite happy to see that I knew she would be very helpful to me. She thinks very ...

Re: Sponsorship Question

So I see a lot of people call this Step 12 work. I certainly she that is important once arriving at that stage. I think this also falls in to the Service part of the three legacies. I've been helping others already by driving them home from meetings. I've been told that this is part of me already em...

Re: questions about the steps

I am by no means intimately familiar with any of the literature. It is quite possible that they really did intend that statement to mean exactly what sounds like (making a living). However, for me, I know that I've always had a job regardless of how much I drank. So if I look at "making a living" as...

Re: Spring has Sprung

Hello from up above and to the east. Spring has started to pour from the sky around here but I love it. The lawn is starting to grow and soon it will be time to get the mower out and ride around the yard cutting the grass. The smell of the air and the sounds of the wildlife waking up after the winte...

Re: Friendships

I know that I am one of those people who has a hard time reaching out. I was always taught to deal with my own problems and not involve others. That, for me, was part of why my first AA meeting was so stressful for me. It is funny how this is a stark contrast to my professional life. If they really ...
