Re: I feel like a crazy person...

Hi Megan, I can feel through your writing how desperate you are for sobriety. I get it. For many years I couldn't even reach 24 hours sober until 19 days ago. Please Megan, just get yourself to a meeting asap and let AA and "open" yourself to allowing the AA people to do "that thing they do" that he...

Re: 18 Days Sober and Counting

WOW! Thank you ALL for your support and encouragement. And greetings Megan, Please try not to beat up on yourself. I couldn't get 24 hours sober for years, and I've spent a lot of time hating myself as well. I suppose it was when I started drinking in the morning that I finally began to realize how ...

Re: 18 Days Sober and Counting

I forgot to mention that Big Book study speakers are fantastic AND fascinating. I started with "Joe and Charlie", who are great for beginners, and have found many others.

18 Days Sober and Counting

Greetings All! I never dreamt I would have been able to achieve 18 Days sober. I have the will of a Sherman Tank when I want to achieve something, but since 2007 alcohol defeated me. Now though, something has mentally changed me, but this change is even deeper. When I asked my Higher Power for help ...

Re: Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. Today is the beginning of my 15th day of sobriety. I am beginning to understand "one day at a time." Initially it was one minute at a time, but as I climb into bed each night and I am sober I feel humbled and proud for that last 24 hours of sobri...

Re: Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

I hadn't thought about how much my sharing might help someone else. I will take the advice you folks have given and will try to use it in my meeting tonight. And what a good challenge for me to grow. I am "that" person who sits in a corner assuming I will embarrass myself if I speak, or that I have ...

Re: Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

Greetings All' Day 13 has just begun! I have been so busy doing my steps, attending meetings, meeting with my sponsor and doing homework, reading the Big Book, listening to speakers, meditating on my higher power and trying to work and keep my relationship healthy that I haven't had time to respond ...

Re: Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

I've made it through eight days of sobriety. I have to say that Step 4 is very difficult, and that may be what made today one of my most difficult in battling the urge to drink. I read the Big Book and worked on Step 4, went to work, then to a meeting and then talked to my sponsor. This is hard stuf...

Re: Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

Thank you all for sharing your own experiences, wisdom, advice and encouragement with me. I had a hard day today because I return to work tomorrow after a week off. But I'll be walking in tomorrow as a new "sober person". I didn't realize how worried I was about this until talking to my sponsor toni...

Six Days Sober and 12 Steps

This is my second thread in the Newcomer section. I've read the Big Book up to page 164 and some of the Personal Stories. I keep reading here, hearing in meetings and listening on XA about the importance of doing the steps. I have a sponsor and I don't want to jump the gun or get ahead of myself in ...

Re: New and already drinking???

Thank you Robert. I still feel awkward at meetings but it's becoming easier with each meeting. My sponsor and her husband are the type of calm, steady people that you described. I want to become friends with more people with that kind of energy about them. They seem to keep things simple, which is w...

Re: Survived my first weekend

Hi Joe, I'm four and a half days sober and needed to attend a holiday meal/party with lots of alcohol and drinking on my second day. I found that staying in contact with my sponsor (or a supportive person who understands alcoholism), and attending the event with a close person who was aware of my fe...

Re: New and already drinking???

Thanks everyone. I AM hearing you Bob. I don't want to get careless with my sobriety or begin playing with a notion that I can drink casually. I DO need to remember that I am an alcoholic and I do not want to relapse. It's been a difficult 4 1/2 days, but I don't want to "lose" them. I went to a mee...

Re: New and already drinking???

Having survived the dreaded Thanksgiving event yesterday (I stayed sober!), I'd like to share my experience with you all. BTW, 86+ hours so far and I'm finding so much thrill and terror in sobriety I don't yet have the words to explain. I am fortunate to have a "family of friends" who come together ...
