By any other name...

Language influences how we think, so I've made up some alternate words:

"Drinking" is "Home-Chemo"
"Alcohol" is "Radioactive Poison-Acid"

Got any more?

Re: You Might Be An Alcoholic If?

Instead of being all "T.G.I.F," you actually dread the weekends because you know how hungover you're going to end up.

Time Travel

"Did you ever get blackout drunk, or as I call it: 'Time Travel?' You're in a bar, you black out, you're in another bar, you black out, you're in a McDonald's, been working there two years already, still not assistant manager..."

Re: You Might Be An Alcoholic If?

Half of the titles in your Netflix "Continue Watching" list are movies you've never heard of.

Re: "Just a couple glasses of wine..."

Sorry about that, guys. Didn't realize this post got filed someplace else, thought it just got deleted. Which it probably should have been. So I didn't respond. Yeah, just a silly, and unclear, way of expressing a memory of drinking thinking. Meaning: the idea that I'll have "just a couple of glasse...

Early Sobriety Observation: The Transformation of Dread

It would generally be about 10:00 PM when The Dread would come down. That was the point on a work-week evening where, hopefully, I was done drinking for the night, buzz was burning off, and the realization would settle in that I'd once again drunk enough to guarantee that I would be miserably hungov...

Re: Forgetfulness

So - the consensus is that early sobriety brings on forgetfulness, temporarily? It's not just increased awareness of how forgetful you were all along? That was my question - is it perception or reality? (Apparently it's both.)

Re: Forgetfulness

Thanks. Ah, yes, should have mentioned, I'm 57. So I was already familiar with "thoughts of the hereafter" (going into a room and wondering what you came in here after), but it just seems like with the fog lifted, I'm checking off little things I forgot one after the next. So I wonder if, when I was...

Forgetfulness

Hi. One week sober, and I feel like an Alzheimer's patient. If I go into a room to get three things, I'm lucky if I come back with one of them. I'm constantly remembering stuff that I was going to do or bring, but forgot. My question is – am I genuinely more forgetful now, or am I just catching it m...
