Not counting the days...

I just realized that I had passed my 6 month sober mark.... and didn't even think about it until a friend mentioned his clean time. I have always been at debate with myself over this one bc I have always felt that (keeping this on me) I should not be celebrating what I should have been doing all alo...

4th Step question - Resentments & "Self"

I am currently working on my resentments on my 4th step. Most of my resentments I have cleared up with a previous sponsor but there are only a few that I can think of that aren't about myself. There has been controversy over this at the recovery center I went through last year and I figured I would ...

Re: What do you enjoy doing in sobriety?

I personally struggle with finding things I enjoy doing... same here, even though i do realize that my ability to enjoy life is healing (very slowly), i do struggle from time to time with this mainly when i become obsessed with expecting a certain outcome without giving the actual experience a chan...

Re: What do you enjoy doing in sobriety?

I find myself down by the river along, practicing prayer and meditation as much as possible, it is the most peaceful spot around my area to get away and clear my head. I was thinking about buying some fishing gear soon, and renewing my gym membership. Physical health has been a recent concern of mi...

Re: What do you enjoy doing in sobriety?

I personally struggle with finding things I enjoy doing... I find myself reading books and reading internet material. I work about 50 hours a week, I attend 6-8 meetings in the 3 days I am off work, I go out to eat with my sponsor every Wednesday afternoon, I work on step work with him as well as re...

Re: Book Suggestions - Sobriety, Addiction, Spiritual Relate

The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle really helped me with both acceptance and spirituality. It is free for download in a PDF or in most bookstores. Some of it is pretty deep so I read it with a "take what you understand and leave the rest" attitude. It seems that a lot of it is in the same vein of AA....

Book Suggestions - Sobriety, Addiction, Spiritual Related.

Just looking for suggestions, I have been looking into books that are AA, sobriety, inspirational, addiction, & spiritual related (along those lines...). I started on a new book yesterday "Healing the Addictive Personality" Dr. Lee Jampolsky and so far I love it. I am also looking for other suggesti...

Re: HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE

I realize everyone is different. We learn at different rates and different ways. I hear people do the 12 steps in a month, one a month, one a year. Then others who go to step meetings every year. What is a reasonable length of time to do the steps. Is a sponsor necessary for each step. Thnks :?: It...

Re: Qualify to Chair a Meeting

How do you have this problem of drunk-a-logs? There is a written agenda in our group and it is followed to a T. Should someone get off to something else, someone in the group will kindly remind the chair that they are getting off topic! How easily things can get out of hand for someone that doesn't...

Re: Can we discuss 'Powerlessness'!

I love this topic... I know it's outdated but would like to bring it back to life. Being in recovery and since I have been back in recovery I have been taught that I am powerless over people, places and things and that the only thing I have control over is my actions and how I carry myself the next ...

Re: Just making a list for my 4th step... Fears

Are you working with a recovered alcoholic to guide you through this program and the 12 Steps? It saves a lot of unnecessary trial and error (likely a relapse). It's not very productive to go at this alone, unaided and driven by our self-will, knowledge and thinking. AA advised that doesn't work bu...

Re: Just making a list for my 4th step... Fears

I really appreciate the feedback. I printed the Just For Today card and plan on buying a few books to help boost my morale and spiritual thinking (Daily Reflections, etc.). I haven't fully committed to a home group yet but there is a particular group that I attend every week that I will soon commit ...

Just making a list for my 4th step... Fears

I start writing notes down for my 4th step... The first subject I come to is listing my fears. I am starting to realize that most of my fears listed so far are based upon my insecurities of what other people think of me. Fear of other people, social gatherings, public speaking, etc. Even tho I know ...
