Re: How do you personally cope with the Holiday Blues?

I'm not sure why, but my main reaction-thought to your post, Paige, was : To thine own self be true. Throughout the year, drunk and in sobriety, the Holidays were a time that I beat myself to death with the "supposed tos." And I'd write scripts. I'll do and say this. And you'll do and say that. I wa...

Re: Self will run riot? And can I ask personal questions?

In the beginning, as a full-time homemaker, I thought I was in charge of the household and responsible for everyone's else's happiness. My self-will run-riot focused mainly on thinking it was my duty to be in charge! Basically, I thought doing everything for everybody else was going to fill me with ...

Re: Misconception of outside World

Not drinking one day at a time was/is the beginning, the foundation for the development of my spiritual condition. I have no problem with Newcomers or Outsiders thinking this is the overview of Recovery. I had to start somewhere! One day at a time was my first spiritual principle. Early on and throu...

Re: Effect of True Surrender

I am not religious or a disciple of Power of Now . But this topic sure did get the "committee" in my head jabbering. :) When I dip into my experience, strength, and hope, I see how going to meetings, reading the literature, talking 1 on 1 and in groups, and working the Steps gradually changed my thi...

Re: Is this alcoholism and what can i do?

Hi Shorty, I can't give you advice. I am an alcoholic and can only tell you about my own experiences. I drank sporadically for a long time. I don't know exactly when taking the first drink meant I would get drunk, but I had blackouts here and there, might get hostile, and could not guarantee my own ...

Re: The Athiest

I was atheist when I got here. I used the Group as my Higher Power for yearS. I had a physical and mental negative reaction to the word "God" and said "Higher Power" to make sure no one would push religion down my throat as was the case at home. I had a hard time with the religious undercurrent in t...

Re: "Be still, and know that I am God."

I am not religious. I am free-loading on my kids while I look for a house to buy in a seller's market. It's been 4 weeks; I've rejected two email pictures, and I still haven't been to a showing. My kids are Christians and my son's Christian in-laws came to visit for Easter weekend. Nobody bothers me...

Re: Two Types of Alcoholics ?

I have no idea what John wrote, but the Subject certainly reminded me that I did think there were 2 kinds of alcoholics in AA when I first got here. I'm high bottom. That is, I never drank 2 days in a row, just sporadically for 15+ years. I made a point to be careful. It was a slow progression. I th...

Re: Qualifier's Chronic Relapse

Hi. I'm Barbara, a recovering alcoholic. I gather you already have experience, strength, and hope from your Al-anon Group and you want a perspective from the alcoholic side of the "equation." I attended a few Al-anon meetings because of my father. It was about me deciding what I could do to deal wit...

Re: please help!!! mentioning God/HP in an amend?

As far as I am aware, the only thing I have to share as a member of AA or as a guide (sponsor) is my experience, strength, and hope. I can tell somebody how I see a certain situation or circumstance. I can make suggestions. If I judge or tell someone what they must do to work a good program, I think...
