Re: Advice for a Recovering Wiccan

Religion/spirituality is a very personal thing. What matters is less the name you put on it, as the actions you put in, I feel. I do understand your concern though. The deeply religious do seem to fear/think paganism is the work of the devil. I am inclined to believe that it's not necessary to tell ...

Re: The Duck with a Human Mind

I totally get this. And I do it too. Something might happen that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to my Ego...so my ego will try to fill in the gaps. Because I don't think well, these made up stories are rarely the truth, upset and hurt inside follow...all needless because it's a made up story and ...

Re: The EGO'S need to feel Superior

Ego is massively important in recovery, for me...since any pain I feel is largely due to my ego thinking someone has wronged it or threatened it, in some way, shape or form. As time goes on, this is MUCH more subtle. Things that would have had me on the floor previously, now affect me perhaps moment...

Re: NEWCOMERS

My sponsor never asked me to do anything like that. He did however stress the importance of service to others as the key to getting out of my own head. It's impossible to be in self pity (which was a major one for me) when you're actively helping someone else. This is best I find if it's another alc...

Re: Emotional Rollercoaster

Hi Zeezee. I remember that feeling well...you are not different. Indeed that snappy, irritable, no patience feeling is invariably what led me to drinking again. The big book refers to it as 'irritable, restless, discontent'. I was like a cat on a hot tin roof. My mind would tell me that taking a dri...

Re: New Here

I can relate to other obsessions too. When I quit drinking I found out what all the others were that the drink had hidden. I just have an obsessive mind, I guess. When I'm well spiritually, these are less of a problem...I actually use these obsessions as a 'marker' of how well I'm applying this prog...

Re: Declining drinks and telling people that you are sober

What whipping post said...although that's not necessary these days unless I'm feeling 'off the boil' as it were. I have no problem saying I don't drink these days. It gets easier with practice. Most just looked shocked and leave it. The odd curious one says 'what? never?' at which point I just laugh...

Re: Does this make sense?

Hi Again :) How that worked for me was I would get drunk, wake up, feeling disgusted, full of guilt, shame and swear off the drink. Sometimes I could swear off for a while...less so in the later stages of my active alcholism. However, sooner or later, those feelings were outweighed by the fact that ...

Re: Scared and Confused

Hi there, I can certainly relate to that....that depression and anxiety that sets in when off the drink. That feeling of not being able to cope with life without the booze, nor, at the end with it. My problem was I didn't know HOW to live sober. I found the answer to that in AA, by getting a sponsor...
