Re: Gotta end this game

I am an atheist, that's not going to change. Don't let this stop you from checking it out. Go check out a few different meetings if possible. You'll find a different vibe at most, and you'll very likely find some you fit into. I'll have 1 year tomorrow. In my experience so far, no one has attempted...

Re: Should I call their sponsor?

Shaun, This may just be me, but I would opt for continuing to be the person he will go to when he needs to go to someone. .... The only part of Chip's comments I would be cautious of is this. I would be careful about being the only one he goes to if he continues down the road toward the drink. I ca...

Re: Im new here and NEED support...

I have a little bit of a social anxiety and that wouldn't help. That's why I joined this forum. On the contrary... I've suffered from social anxiety for years. I am on day 23 of recovery and go to at least 1 meeting every day. Nothing (not even Zoloft) has done more for my anxiety than sitting in m...

Re: question about open meetings

I'm new to the program, but my understanding of an OPEN meeting is that it's open to anyone who has an interest in going. I hope they see the light and stop worrying about you being there. Below is straight form literature published on www.aa.org. The Difference Between Open and Closed A.A. Meetings...

Re: My SO is sober, should I tell him?

I would focus on your sobriety today . I don't think you should put too much effort (mental energy) into figuring out whether or not to tell your SO. Focus on doing the right thing for yourself, and chances are the answer to the other question(s) will come to you. If you are at a point where you ack...

Re: 24 hours sober and new to AA

Welcome awold0! I am fairly new to the program myself. I work from home as well which allowed me to get deeper in the hole than anyone else knew. One day I just realized that I was making every decision in my life based on how it would affect my drinking. I woke up. I now attend meetings daily and h...

Re: Some advice?

Do you know her plan for continued recovery? If she wants to stay sober, how about car-pooling to meetings? I know I wasn't inclined to take anyone's advice, but what I learn in AA is not given to me in the form of advice, it is wisdom gained by experience (mine and everyone else's). Good luck and d...

Re: 15 days today, and I came real close to picking up last n

I'm fairly new to sobriety too. I'm finding as I venture out to events that may make me uncomfortable (grad parties lately), I'm letting them know right away that I can't stay long. If you're comfortable you can always stay longer, but it's nice to set the expectation that you won't be there long so...

Re: is it normal to be scared to go to the first AA meeting

Perfectly normal. It's new. I sat in the parking lot and watched people go in. Then I held my breath and walked in. After that 5 minutes of anxiety, my life has continually gotten way better each day and every meeting. It's now my favorite place to be.

Re: Could use some words of encouragement!

Thank you so much, I think a speaker tape is probably the way to go. So strange but as soon as I posted to this forum I decided to hit my knees & prayed for a little guidance. Wouldn't you know I just had a conversation with a fellow trainee who had some substance abuse problems and found God. This...

Re: Day 9

boosic, I am now on day 14. The first 8 or 9 days were actually very positive for me. Then it seemed to tail off a bit. Still positive, but mixed in with a little more frustration, anxiety, etc. I'm still headed in the right direction, but it slowed. I've been making at least one meeting/day and I d...

Re: Finding a sponsor

I had been thinking for a few days who I wanted to ask. There were 2 guys in most of my meetings (30+ years sober) that I was considering. My only hangup was that I ONLY knew them from meetings. I felt the need to know them to some extent outside the meetings as well. Well, last Friday night at a me...

Re: Dealing with a problem partner

Maybe not the right partner to enjoy a sober life with? Clearly I don't know enough about your situation to say what you should do. But likely, if you ponder it long enough and truthfully enough, you'll know your answer. The only thing you can control is your next move. Thoughts and prayers are with...

Re: Going to first meeting tommorow in years.

Thank you to all for your kind words of encouragement and advice. I will have a week sober in 12 hours. :D I also feel better physically for the first time in 6 days. So I think with the program and the 3rd step prayer I say every morning I do not have to drink. One day at a Time. I will keep comin...
