Re: Did I relapse?

SoberG, Hope all went well with your family. I really got a good feeling when you mentioned prayer and meditation. I needed to hear that. My home group serves a "2nd Thanksgiving" to the church where we hold our meetings. Tomorrow will be our 4th year and we've expanded it to include 2 other AA grou...

Re: Did I relapse?

Stop counting, start living. Only you know if you "relapsed", or for that matter, if you were in sobriety. How does your life compare to what it was when you had a problem? Are you the "same" person? Don't worry about others opinions, I don't recall any mention of counting time in the book. Lead wit...

Re: Male sponsor for female?

We have had problems with the Male/Female sponsor thing in the basement of the church after the meeting. Numerous times.

I understand good intentions- but appearences raise questions and did I mention it was a church basement, not appropriate.

Be well,
Larry

Re: Sponsorship Question

No, you do not need a sponsor, unless you can't read. Then you may want someone to read the instructions (AA Big Book) to you. You will need to become a sponsor, by which I mean explaining the program, perhaps even reading the book to a still sick & suffering alcoholic. But that's a few steps down th...

I really don't get"sponsorship"

Where and when did helping another alcoholic become such a co-dependent relationship? It seems to me that it has grown way above and beyond what is described in the Big Book. The using of troubled individuals, in need of professional counseling to fulfill ones own egotistical needs seems contrary to...

Re: Getting a sponsor/Being a sponsor

Figures, I was looking for an arguement and seems I won't get one here. And face meetings are not the place. I'm a debater type. Just been in a funk lately and meetings no longer seem to instill serenity. To may many do as I say, not as I do people. And a lot of people with nothing I want. Which wou...

Getting a sponsor/Being a sponsor

I am confused, which is more important/effective in AA, getting a sponsor or being a sponsor?
And how long should a person rely on their sponsor? (assuming, of course, that one is an otherwise
mature, mentally stable adult)

Re: Can we only sponsor if we had a sponsor?

The man that lead our BB study would often say, "I may not know when I am doing The right thing, but I always know when I am doing wrong" I like to think, having raised two daughters, that I know right from wrong. Surely I wouldn't expect a sponsor to help raise my kids. I'm just saying if I needed ...

Re: Step 3

EZ mentioned "magical deities" and I must confess I don't believe in them either. But I do believe in God, I just don't have a full understanding, and I am ok with that. It gives me something to do.. to search, to learn, to contemplate. i do know this, when i choose to follow the path, to believe an...

Re: Can we only sponsor if we had a sponsor?

Oddly enough... Just read the above listed AA approved literature and it seems to that when Bill W., early in recovery, felt the need to drink, he "sponsored" Dr. Bob. In other words he found someone with less time and shared his E,S & H. "Essentially, the process of sponsorship is this: An alcoholi...

Re: The Steps Aren't Necessary...Part 2

The words "flogging", "dead" and "horse" spring to mind here. And I was just going to say... blah, blah blah. Blue was much more eloquent. And then my thought/response, as I feel strongly about this debate/situation is, (paraphrased) "We are going to talk about God"...sez so in the BB. Therefor, IM...

Re: Step 3

I think one needs to ask oneself what is the will of God, atleast as far as one is concerned. For me it's kinda like being a boyscout.. A Scout Is: Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent and I'm good with that. Be Well, Larry

Tosh,

You are right, so insightful.

And that is why they never mention any sect or denomination. But they certainly do talk about God, alot.
