Re: Day 1

Hopeful, You can stay sober -- I was always happy, in the beginning, if I managed to get through 20 minutes at a time. The Big Book, available free online, was a huge help to me at the start of it -- take a look at "The Doctor's Opinion." Let us know how it goes, OK? We're here to help. Strider

Re: In the midst of drunk when I realize...

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous is available online for free. You don't have to wait for a meeting to get going on this -- read "The Dr.'s Opinion," at the very beginning because it will help you realize what is happening to you. Alcoholism is a progressive disease, and the more you know about ...

May 10. Nothing changes if. . .

About six months ago I mentioned casually, off-handedly, to an AA friend: I wonder what it will be like after a year, and he replied: Don't look ahead too far. And so I didn't look too far ahead from that point, and here I am at a full year sober. An amazing year, thanks to this site and to all of y...

Re: New member needing help

Has your life become unmanageable?

Try reading "The Dr.'s Opinion" in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, right at the beginning of the book. It is available online, free. It will, perhaps, answer a few questions for you. This is the best advice I can give you right now.

Outstanding news, what an accomplishment -- one year. You must feel so much better than you did a year ago. :)

Everyone who is posted is right -- you are not having a slip because of this. Keep on in recovery. 10 months sober is wonderful.

Re: Pregnant.

Please do not rule out the on-line meetings. There are some of us here who have gotten sober on-line. The program is the steps.

Re: Pregnant.

There are on-line meetings as well -- please look into coming on for those. They are available for those of us who cannot get to a face-to-face meeting, for whatever reason.

Re: Thinking about quitting...and terrified

Hi MJ, Your post makes you sound like someone who is truly tired of the terrible merry-go-round that alcohol can put a person on -- congratulations on trying to get off. Take a look at the Big Book of AA -- it is available online for free, and read the section called "The Dr.'s Opinion." It will tak...

Re: just had to vent - this is all so damn hard

Jackstraw, Give yourself a little more time. Many of us struggle still through the first few months -- my fourth month was really difficult for no obvious reason but I pulled through; my fourth step was a monster but I pulled through. The obsession you still have will lift, and that will be a miracl...
