Re: Cycling

Well I ran a half marathon a few weeks ago. Ran my my first 10/11 unbelievably well. At the start of the race I was buried in 3000 other runners and had to use the bathroom haha.. The gun went off and I ran till about mile 11 and my bladder felt like it was going to explode. Had to walk/run the last...

Re: Cycling

Thought I would give a shout out to ya'll. Running has given me some great joy since the last time I checked in. I joined a training group lead by a local running shop and they have helped me get those miles in when I would rather be hibernating from the cold. Some of the mornings we ran with ice fo...

Re: Support advice please

Get in to some al-Alonon meetings right away. You sound like you have thought alot about this. Mentioning that he is an alcoholoic, and that it is a desease is a big step for you. Congrates. I have the desease called alcoholism too. I can get rid of the alcohol, but I will always have the "ism". Let...

Re: Being/God/Higher Power!

Great thread. I think I might have to steal that line. My HP is like water to a fish, and like me, many times I was told about this water, and swam away to look for it.

Nope, no need to speak. Just show up and listen. Let us know if you heard anything you can relate to.

Re: Response to relapse after many years

It's a great topic. Your question of concern may be just your concern. I know for me, as an alcoholic, it would be more of a pride, and ego thing. I would be more bothered because I let myself down, my program, and the people around me. It would mean that the way I was working the program was half h...

@niagara, hang in there your doin great. Your right, my past lifestyle is taking a long time to work off, so don't beat yourself up over it. I quit smoking a year ago and started vapeing. I beleive that by using the vape I have cleaned out the lungs a bit. I still have a long way to go, but what I d...

Re: Cycling

Great thread! Just wish I would have cought up sooner. I have never had any sports in my life life other than skateboarding as a teen. So this year (now age 40) I have decided to start running. In March of this year I set a goal that I wanted to run a 5k. 4 weeks later I accomplished that goal. It w...

Anna-Louise, Some concrete things you can do to decrease isolation and facilitate new friendships: - go to your meetings early (15-30 minutes) and leave late (15-30 minutes). Getting there early will permit you to help with setting up the meeting, or just talking with early arriving attendees. Same...

Re: Question about Sponsors and Home Groups

The problem is, often times, neither one know when their gender is affecting one another. I beleive this is why the fellowship in general just says stay away from it... period. Even though I would go into helping a female with the best intensions I could never promise the end result. It would not ha...

Re: Question about Sponsors and Home Groups

My sponsee has also been to addiction counselrs, and rehabs. He claims he knows all about Bill W and how the steps work. He sort of "educated me" as he asked me to be his sponsor. I let him know, if he want's me to sponsor him, we will be starting with step 1, regarless of how many steps he did with...

Re: Higher Power Concept to agnostic new comer

I did not see in your post that he had a desire to stop drinking. From my experience, most of us need the great power of desperation and powerlessness before we seek a power outside of ourselves. The Big Book tells us to start with step 1.
